While fixing the cylinder head on the cylinder block gas can leak between their surfaces. Therefore, head gaskets which are made of copper, asbestos, etc. are used. This prevents leakage. When we tighten the gasket it is pressed and the joint is gas-tight. Whenever the cylinder head is opened it should be changed.
