(a) The fuel pump does not give sufficient petrol Causes :
(i) Air is going into the pump. (ü) Main return valve is leaking :
(ii) Diaphragm does not pull down properly.
(iii) Pump foundation gasket is thick. Automobile Engineering
(v) Air lock is there in the fuel line.
(vi) Fuel pump diaphragm has become hard.
(b) Fuel pump is giving excess petrol Causes:
(i) Carburettor needle valve leaks.
(ii) Diaphragm spring is weak.
(iii) Fuel pump diaphragm has become soft.
